Ingredients for baked tacos, beef and turkey

Ingredients for Crispy Sheet Pan Tacos

Here’s what you’ll need to whip up these delicious sheet pan tacos:

  • Ground beef: Adds a rich, hearty flavor as the base for the taco filling.
  • Ground turkey: Balances the dish with a leaner protein option for a lighter texture.
  • Taco seasoning: Provides a blend of spices to give the meat a bold, authentic flavor. Enhance the flavors and spice by adding more chili powder to your seasoning.
  • Garlic: Adds depth and aromatic flavor to the meat mixture. If you don’t’ have fresh garlic available, you can add garlic powder to your taco seasoning.
  • Lime juice: Brings a fresh, tangy element that brightens up the dish.
  • Diced green chilies: Adds a mild heat and slight smokiness to the filling.
  • Salt & black pepper: Essential for enhancing and balancing all the flavors.
  • Colby Jack cheese: Melts beautifully and adds a creamy, cheesy goodness to the tacos. Shredded cheddar cheese works here, too.
  • Corn tortillas: The perfect vehicle for holding the flavorful filling and achieving a crispy shell. You could also use flour tortillas, just keep in mind they will be higher in calories and carb,

Favorite taco toppings: pico de gallo, fresh jalapeño, sour cream, cilantro, and guacamole.

Create a heartier meal with a side dish, like refried beans, black beans, Spanish rice, or a salad.

How to Store Leftover Baked Tacos

If you have any leftovers (though it’s unlikely!), store them properly to enjoy later:

  • Refrigerate: Place tacos in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: Warm them up in a 350°F oven for 10–15 minutes to restore their crispy texture. You can also reheat them in an air fryer.
  • Freeze: You can freeze the meat filling separately in a freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. When ready to use, thaw overnight in the fridge and follow the assembly and baking steps.

Tips for the Best Baked Sheet Pan Tacos

  1. Use Fresh Tortillas: Fresh tortillas are less likely to crack when folding. Briefly heating them before assembly makes them more pliable.
  2. Customize the Cheese: Feel free to swap Colby Jack for cheddar, pepper jack, or your favorite cheese blend.
  3. Don’t Skip the Oil: Brushing the tortillas with oil ensures they bake up golden and crispy.
  4. Toppings Make the Difference: Add a variety of toppings to let everyone customize their tacos.
  5. Double the Recipe for Meal Prep: These tacos are great for meal prep or a large crowd. Double the recipe, freeze extras, and enjoy easy meals later.
Can I use just one type of meat?
Absolutely! If you prefer, use all ground beef or all ground turkey. You can also substitute with ground chicken or plant-based alternatives. For even quicker preparation, shred a rotisserie chicken for your taco meat filling.

What’s the best way to reheat these tacos?

Reheat them in the oven or an air fryer to keep them crispy. Avoid microwaving, as it can make the tortillas soft.

How do I prevent the tacos from becoming soggy?

Be sure to drain excess fat from the meat and cook off most of the moisture in the filling before assembling the tacos.

Can I make these gluten-free?

Yes! Corn tortillas are naturally gluten-free, so as long as your taco seasoning is gluten-free, this recipe is safe for gluten-sensitive diets.

What other fillings can I add?

Feel free to mix in corn, sautéed onions, or bell peppers for added texture and flavor.
